Like all fish, a Pacific halibut starts life with eyes on opposite sides of its head. However, when it reaches about an inch long, one eye—usually the left—embarks on an incredible journey across the snout to the right side of its face. The result? A distinctive flat body with both eyes on one side, helping it blend seamlessly into the seafloor while still being able to observe what happens around it.
