Because Hagrid is described as nearly twice the size of an average man, the filmmakers relied on clever practical effects to create his towering presence. For certain action sequences and wide shots, an animatronic Hagrid head was built using a mould of Coltrane’s real face. The mechanical head had moving eyes, lips, and facial exp
