Northern Goshawk Northern Goshawk feeds on a male pheasant, this bird is a yearling and is thought to be a female. This is my first set of goshawk images after many years of trying and many miles of travelling throughout Europe, and it's ironic I photographed the goshawk so close to home. The Grey Goshawk is Australia’s only pure white bird of prey in fact, it’s the only pure white hawk in the world. Ghost-like. Quiet. Powerful. They move through the canopy with incredible agility, using dense forest as cover to ambush their prey. They’re shy, elusive, and rarely seen up close. When one chooses to reveal itself, it always feels like a moment. Check out those eyes! This is an adult male goshawk that we captured, banded and attached a transmitter to allow us to study how forest management such as thinning and burning affects these birds. Understanding how these birds react to thinning and fire in their forests is crucial to conservation efforts.
