Initial Burial After the Battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876, Custer's body was found near the top of Last Stand Hill, surrounded by his men. He and the other soldiers were buried in shallow graves on the battlefield. Reinterment In 1877, Custer's body was exhumed and moved to West Point Cemetery.
